SnapHatch offers a comprehensive Fly Fishing System that helps anglers—both new and experienced—catch more fish by identifying aquatic insects and matching them to their imitations. Powered by real-time data and AI insect identification, this system combines the innovative SnapHatch App with expert-selected Fly Kits to enhance your fly fishing experience.
Absolutely! SnapHatch is designed to work offline, allowing you to access essential features and catch more fish, no matter where your fishing adventures take you.
Adult insects can often be found in spider webs, in trees and brush along the bank, or on the water’s surface near the shoreline. Insects flying from the water to nearby vegetation also make great candidates for identification. Need more help finding insects? Check out the SnapHatch Bug Out Bag to learn more.
Nymphs are often swept downstream as they migrate towards shallow water during their emergence phase. Look under rocks, logs and other vegetation along the shore and in shallow water downstream of where you plan to fish. Check out the SnapHatch Bug Out Bag to learn more.
To improve image recognition accuracy, zoom in to fill the frame, ensure the image is in focus, and avoid shadows. Capture as many key features of the insect as possible. For adult insects, a side profile or top-down shot works best, while for nymphs, an overhead shot is ideal. Need more help? Check out our Tech Tip Videos.
The SnapHatch App works great on its own or pair it with our Fly Kits to complete the System! Every Fly Kit includes a free one-year subscription to the app. If you prefer to buy flies individually, just tap the “All Flies” icon under “Fly Kits” on the home page to browse every fly imitation used in the app. You can view detailed info, sizes, images, and even save the flies you want to buy to a convenient shopping list.
Matches are created using the insect you've identified, the Reading the Rise option you select, and a variety of real-time conditions—all processed through our patent-pending algorithm. Each Match gives you everything you need to fish with confidence: the exact insect imitations, presentations, and alternates to try if conditions change.
The Hatch Map is an interactive tool that shows a visual record of every hatch you've identified, each one marked with its own icon. Tap any icon to view the insect, see your current Match, or choose a new Reading the Rise option to create a new Match. You can also explore the Guide’s Hatch Map to discover real-time hatch activity happening across the country—perfect for planning your next fishing trip.
