Drake Nymph

Fly Details
Drake Nymph
Green Drakes, Brown Drakes, and Gray Drakes are among the most widespread and important mayflies found in rivers and lakes across the globe. Their nymphs are available to trout year-round, making them a consistent and reliable food source. This pattern imitates those large, meaty nymphs and is a staple in any fly box - espcially in the weeks leading up to a major Drake hatch, when fish begin keying in on them below the surface.

Presentation
This pattern fishes well year-round in a Nymph Rig, especially when presented near the bottom. It can be used as either the lead or dropper fly, but is most often tied on as the larger lead fly to help get your rig down and attract attention in deeper runs.
Fished in tandem with a highly visible dry fly acting as an indicator, this setup allows the nymph to suspend higher in the water column - ideal for targeting trout feeding just below the surface on emerging insects or drifting nymphs. A deadly combination during hatch transitions or in shallow riffles.
